Saturday, March 16, 2024 at 5 pm is the new date for the Linn County Small Woodlands Association annual meeting.

The mid-January ice storm forced the postponement of the potluck dinner and business session for the 120-member chapter.

The annual event at the ZCBJ Hall in Scio begins with our traditional potluck meal. Smoked meats, casseroles, salads, veggie dishes, and desserts are the usual tasty fare. Families bring their own table settings. The LCSWA supplies punch and coffee.

A business meeting follows dinner. There are three board of directors to be elected. Two are existing board members — Jim Cota and Shirley Holmberg — who have agreed to run for another three-year term. Lauren Parks is a candidate to fill a current vacant position. Revisions to the chapter bylaws also need membership approval.

The Board reviewed and approved the bylaw revisions at its December 2023 meeting. Changes include procedural changes relating to board members and their terms, allowing “zoom” (online) meetings for the board, revising the treasurer’s job description, defining the fiscal year and budget requirements, and cleaning up some grammatical errors. Members received a digital copy of the bylaws attached to an email in late December.

Speakers with groups that provide financial and technical support to small woodlands owners will be part of the business program, as well as 4-H scholarship presentations. There are door prizes and auction items as part of the event.

Also, the Bell Family will be honored as the LCSWA 2023 Outstanding Tree Farmers of the Year.
