Congratulations to our 2022 LCSWA forestry scholarship recipients!
Linn County Small Woodlands Association has awarded nine Linn County forestry 4-Hers merit scholarships.
The scholarships are available to youth enrolled in Linn County 4-H Forestry projects. Applicants must have completed 4th-12th grades and competed in the County Record Book Contest for the grade level just completed to be eligible.
The selection process involved applicant submittal of last year’s record book, an essay on their involvement in Forestry, and a panel interview. This year’s selection committee consisted of Katie and Steve Kohl.
Interviews were conducted on December 28, 2021, at Fay Sallee’s home with Covid precautions in place.
The Kohls were impressed with the 4-H members’ record books and with the interviewees themselves.
The 4-H forestry members’ awards were divided into two award groups. The first group included Conner Tye, Gabriel Bradford, Elizabeth Kinkade, Andrew Bradford, and Ryan Henry. The second group included Emily Kinkade, Haley Tye, Kaden Holt and Katie Fortner. The members were mailed checks this year from the budgeted $1,600, since the organization decided not to have an in-person annual meeting and award presentation ceremony.
All of the winners are looking forward with helping at this year’s LCSWA seedling sale on Feb. 4 and 5.
