Burgers, potluck will follow gathering displaying riparian and savanna restorations

A tree-farm tour and picnic lunch are planned for the tree farm of Dan and Sandre Nelson on Saturday, June 10 at Dragonfly Ranch, about 6 miles northeast of Lebanon.

See the event listing for details.

On the walking tour we'll view upland oak woodland  and savanna areas, as well as wetland prairie and riparian areas along One Horse Slough. Both the uplands and the wetlands are being restored using NRCS (EQIP) grants. Beavers and western pond turtles are present in the wetlands. More than 50 acres that were drained for farmland are being restored to native wet prairie. The property is generally unsuitable for growing Douglas fir but is growing Ponderosa pine.

ODF Small Woodlands Forester Justin White will describe forest regulations applicable to small woodland owners. Representatives of the NRCS and Fish and Wildlife Service will explain habitat restoration assistance programs.

We hope you'll stay for the picnic potluck after the tour, with hamburgers, drinks and snacks to be provided by the Linn County Small Woodlands Association and your potluck dishes or salads. Don't forget to bring your own place servings to save on disposables.

Please invite your friends and neighbors to this tour. New members who join OSWA after June 1 will be considered paid-up until the end of 2024.
